The San Gallo is a family managed hotel located in a characteristic venetian alley, (campo), right by one the most antique glass shop, only 50 meters away from San Marco square.

The San Gallo Hotel is located in a small characteristic campo (square), called San Gallo or Rusolo, which has an ancient well and curb and is very close to St Mark's Square (50 metres). This is the area where the ORSEOLO family estate stood in the Tenth Century; one member of this ancient noble family, Pietro I Orseolo, was elected Doge (chief magistrate) between the years 976 and 978.

The area was also used as a refuge for pilgrims from the Holy Land, and was later turned into a hospice for poor women (who were called the Orsoline). Evidence of this is shown by the small Church of the Oratorio San Gallo which was reduced to its present size in 1703.

Next to this, the modern building of the Banca Nazionale del Lavoro now stands on the site which used to be the Casa dei Francesconi, where the famous sculptor Antonio CANOVA died in 1822. As far back as the beginning of the 1800s, the San Gallo Hotel was mentioned in the main guides of the time as a peaceful refined hotel. The building shows a combination of sixteenth and nineteenth century styles, and was completely renovated in 1995.

Its accommodation capacity (12 rooms) accounts for its family management and the special treatment reserved for its clientele.

All the rooms are furnished in the Venetian style and are provided with bathroom shower toilet, hairdryer, mini-bar, direct dial telephone, satellite TV, air conditioning.

Unfortunately, due to the arrangement of the rooms which branch off into the various sections of the ancient building and are only accessible by rising steps, the hotel is not suitable for disabled people.

There is a characteristic flowery terrace on the top floor, where one can relax and enjoy breakfast during the hottest months of the year.

Furthermore, the San Gallo Hotel is adjacent to one of the most well-known glassworks in Venice with its fully operational furnace, which we offer you the chance to visit free of charge.

For those interested, the hotel organises free trips with guided tours to one of the oldest glassworks on the island of Murano; also trips to the ancient islands on the north lagoon: Murano, Burano and Torcello, the latter of which contains the oldest remains of the initial lagoon settlements.

The hotel can be very easily reached, should you travel by car, by train or plane, as it is near San Marco pier, no. 15, where all public transport means arrive from Piazzale Roma, the railway station, the Tronchetto car park and the Marco Polo airport.

If you will arrive at "Marco Polo" airport the best way to come to hotel San Gallo is taking the "ALILAGUNA" water-bus service and you will be at St. Mark square in 1H and 10 minutes;it costs euro 10 per person.From "Tronchetto" parking area, Piazzale Roma or the train station "Santa Lucia", take waterbus #82 running to SanMarco through Canal Grande. Get off at"Vallaresso" stop (San Marco) and take the way straight on called "Calle Vallaresso".

At the end of this street, turn right and enter St. Mark square.Walk under the arches on your left, take the second on the left which is called "Sottoportego Del Cavalletto", cross the little bridge and you will find Hotel San Gallo after 50 meters on your right.

Hotel San Gallo 1) You should have someone to help you with luggage once you ring the bell since you building doesn´t have any elevator. 2) Price is really high for what you get.

Hotel San Gallo when i called hotel for walking directions to hotel, the person answering phone, was not very clear with directions. i walked all the streets behind san marco before being redirected in the opposite direction by an ice cream seller. when i back tracked to ferry, it was a simple route from street next to harry's bar. window was left open in the room before my arrival and carpet was soaked due to rain entering room. gave room a very musty smell.

Hotel San Gallo The up side: very close to Piazza San Marco. It was clean. Nice staff and good free breakfast. Down sides: Price for quality was poor. It is an extremely small place with small room, especially notable in the bathrooms. I actually found a lizard in the shower on waking that likely came through an open window above the shower. The beds were rock hard with pillows to match. Good place for a close stay and if you are in the college / backpacking crowd.

Hotel San Gallo We stayed at this hotel only one night before getting on the cruise ship. We liked the hotel's proximity to St Mark's square, friendly staff, and a nice breakfast on the roof-top terrace. There is a long set of stairs to the 2nd floor of this hotel where the hotel rooms are. So be prepared to carry your suitcases. This was the only inconvenience that we did not like. The room was small, but had a nice decor. The location is great and price is reasonable compared to some other hotels in this area during the peak season.

Hotel San Gallo At the very heart of Venice, very good price. Not very noisy (though I stayed there in winter). The staff is really very kindy and the breakfast is great. Probably the best choice in Venice

Hotel San Gallo Strange layout. Room was small and we had no heat. Staff was gracious enough to take 10% off the bill due to lack of heat.
